YELLOWKNIFE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ADOPTS DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION POLICY
Yellowknife, NT – March 20, 2020– The Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce has adopted a Diversity and Inclusion Policy that takes a merit-based approach to ensuring the Board of Directors is representative of the Yellowknife business community.
Under the new policy, the Yellowknife Chamber will seek to maintain a Board of Directors with at least 40% representation from any gender. In addition, the Nominations Committee will be specifically directed to include diverse candidates, generally, and multiple women candidates, in particular. For purposes of Board composition, diversity includes, but is not limited to business experience, geography, age, gender, ethnicity, and indigenous culture.
“There's a strong business case for organizations to adopt diversity and inclusion policies”, said President, Tim Syer, “The goal of this policy is to help the Yellowknife Chamber attract a diverse range of perspectives, allowing us to modernize and strengthen the organization”.
The adoption of this policy is a response to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s call for its members to create diversity and inclusion policies.
