2025 Membership Survey

We're pleased to share a recap of our 2025 membership survey, which gathered valuable feedback. This survey provides insightful perspectives that will guide our efforts in enhancing the support, events, and programming we offer to our members. We asked our members to share their feedback on all aspects of the services the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce provides to both our members and the local business community. We're proud to report that our members expressed strong overall satisfaction and provided valuable insights. This feedback will help us continue delivering the services that bring the most value while also identifying new opportunities to better support our business community.

Business Outlook

Our members reported that 2024 was a strong year overall, and while 2025 has started more slowly, most businesses are still performing well. Despite emerging concerns, the general outlook remains positive.

The survey highlighted that although businesses are currently succeeding, they are keenly aware of looming challenges. Respondents emphasized the need for municipal and territorial governments to provide clarity and support to help ensure future prosperity. Top concerns raised affecting the next 3-5 years were Mine Closures, Increased Overhead and Supply costs, and Workforce and Staffing Challenges including employee housing availability.
There are also opportunities identified that could be key drivers in helping to maintain momentum moving forward.
  • The Slave Geological Province Corridor was provided as an opportunity and highlighted the links to critical mineral growth, new mines and potential connection to Greys Bay Port Road and Arctic Security Corridor.
  • Tourism was another opportunity identified, especially considering the uncertain US–Canada relationship, which could result in more vacation dollars staying in Canada and international traveller selecting Canada for their vacations.
  • As well as opportunities for growth with the focus on buying Canadian goods and services and interprovincial trade.

Advocacy

We're encouraged to see that our 2025 advocacy priorities align with the feedback from our survey, reinforcing our focus and providing clear direction for our team and board of directors. Additionally, members highlighted other concerns for consideration, including tariffs, territorial government capacity, and equity and inclusion, which will help shape our ongoing advocacy efforts.

We heard that members appreciate our increased advocacy efforts over the past year. They want to see continued efforts that benefit the Yellowknife business community, along with regular updates.

Membership Benefits

Overall, our survey showed that our members are happy with the benefits and services we offer but there is always room for improvement. Though in-person conversations and surveys like this are where we can take the pulse of our members and see where the opportunities are to increase member engagement and satisfaction.

Events and Programs

As we continue to increase our programing after our community faced challenges with the pandemic and wildfire over the past few years. Your feedback on the types of events and programs you enjoy helps guide our team in prioritizing what matters most to members.
We also heard that members want more opportunities to network with other businesses. Many requested evening workshops and training sessions to supplement our existing offerings.
