RECOGNIZING BUSINESS RESILIENCY

During these unprecedented times, we’ve witnessed the Yellowknife business community overcome incredible obstacles by demonstrating innovation, grit and resiliency. Our 7th annual Business Award Gala has transformed into the Business Resilience Awards and will honor 10 businesses who have demonstrated their ability to quickly adapt and respond to business disruptions in the face of the global pandemic and the economic hardship that it has caused.

ANNOUNCING OUR 2020 BUSINESS RESILIENCE AWARD WINNERS

October 23rd, 2020 (Yellowknife, NT) – The Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the 2020 Business Resilience Award winners, selected by an online popular vote after 34 businesses submitted their videos explaining how Covid-19 has impacted their operations and how they’ve changed to adapt.

Award recipients were honored at the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce’s Business Resilience Award Gala on October 23rd at one of three restaurants across Yellowknife – allowing us to have small in-person gatherings at Stake Restaurant, Copperhouse Eatery + Lounge and The Top Knight.

“We received a total of 1559 online votes over the two-week voting period,” said Deneen Everett, Executive Director of the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce. “It was a privilege to recognize and celebrate the outstanding contributions of our award recipients. On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff – congratulations to all of the nominees and award winners!”

RESILIENT SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD - Sponsored by Business Development Bank of Canada
The Resilient Small Business of The Year Award will be presented to a business with 20 or less employees who has demonstrated perseverance and an ability to adapt to the challenges presented by the global pandemic.

RESILIENT LARGE BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD - Sponsored by Business Development Bank of Canada
The Resilient Large Business of The Year Award will be presented to a business with more than 20 employees who has demonstrated perseverance and an ability to adapt to the challenges presented by the global pandemic.

INDIGENOUS ENTREPRENEURSHIP RESILIENCY AWARD - Sponsored by Northland Utilities
The Indigenous Entrepreneurship Resiliency Award celebrates the Indigenous business sector and its contributions to our local economy. This award will be presented to a business who has demonstrated perseverance and an ability to adapt to the challenges presented by the global pandemic.

Eligible businesses must be at least 51% Indigenous owned and operated. Please contact us if you'd like to self-identify as an indigenous owned business.

CUSTOMER SERVICE AWARD OF EXCELLENCE - Sponsored by De Beers Group
The Customer Service Award of Excellence will be presented to a business that has overcome adversity and demonstrated a commitment to providing excellent customer service, even in the most challenging circumstances.

COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD - Sponsored by Northwest Territories Power Corporation
The Community Impact Award will be presented to a business who has demonstrated a commitment to supporting community development and helping others during the COVID-19 pandemic. This can include volunteering for local initiatives, providing sponsorships / scholarships / grants, or any other work that builds a sense of community.

RESILIENT NEW BUSINESS AWARD - Sponsored by the NWT Business Development & Investment Corporation
The Resilient New Business Award will be presented to a business that has been in operation for less than 3 years and has demonstrated perseverance and an ability to adapt to the challenges presented by the global pandemic. This business must have a strong foundation in place for continued commercial success.

RESILIENT YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR AWARD - Sponsored by Northwestel
The Resilient Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award will be presented to a young entrepreneur that has demonstrated leadership, growth potential and an ability to adapt to the challenges presented by the global pandemic.

Eligible businesses must be between the ages of 18 and 35.

WORKPLACE HEALTH & SAFETY AWARD - Sponsored by Worker’s Safety & Compensation Commission
The Workplace Health & Safety Award will be presented to a business that has shown leadership in its commitment to providing a safe workplace for staff and a safe environment for customers and clients.

All nominees will be reviewed by WSCC to ensure they are in good standing with no safety issues.

RESILIENT WOMEN IN BUSINESS AWARD - Sponsored by The City of Yellowknife
The Resilient Women in Business Award celebrates women in business and their contributions to the local economy. This award will be presented to a business that has demonstrated perseverance and an ability to adapt to the challenges presented by the global pandemic.

Eligible businesses must be at least 51% woman owned and operated. Please contact us if you'd like to self-identify as a woman owned business.

INNOVATION AWARD OF EXCELLENCE - Sponsored by GNWT - Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment
The Innovation Award of Excellence will be presented to a business that has demonstrated a strong ability to adapt and pivot quickly during the global pandemic. This could include a creative business concept, the launch of a unique product or business expansion, an investment that improves service, productivity or online sales or the introduction of something new to Yellowknife.
