Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce Response on 2025 NTNP Intake Changes
Re: Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce Response on 2025 NTNP Intake Changes
February 24, 2025 – Yellowknife, NT
The Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce welcomes the Government of the Northwest Territories' (GNWT) release of the 2025 Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) intake and updated program guidelines. This announcement reflects the concerns we and our business community have consistently raised regarding the urgent need for an improved immigration system that better supports employers and workers in the NWT.
While the reduced nominee allocation remains a challenge, we recognize and appreciate the GNWT's efforts to address some of the most pressing issues including Prioritizing applicants with expiring work permits—a key recommendation from our advocacy efforts. These workers have already committed to the territory and ensuring they can remain is essential to retaining skilled talent and maintaining business stability.
"The Chamber of Commerce is committed to working with the GNWT and federal partners to secure increased nominee allocations and develop a more sustainable, long-term immigration strategy that meets the needs of NWT Businesses." said Matthew Halliday, Executive Director of the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce. "We will continue advocating for solutions that allow businesses to recruit and retain the workers they need to keep their businesses open and our economy strong"
