Business License and Permits
Presented by the City of Yellowknife
During this session on business licences and permits, participants will develop a better understanding of the business license application process, learn the differences between starting a home-based business and a commercial business, as well as the requirements for both applications. Various application scenarios for starting up a business within the City of Yellowknife will be examined to shed more light on this process. Participants will find out how to easily access helpful tools and resources on the City’s website.
Ignite your Entrepreneurial Spirit (Workshop to be offered in French)
Presented by the Yellowknife Immigration Partnership and the Francophone Immigration Network of the Northwest Territories

(FR) Cet atelier de 2 heures a pour objectif d'aider les entrepreneurs francophones à s'approprier les principes clés pour se lancer avec succès dans un projet entrepreneurial. En plus de clarifier certains mythes entourant l'entrepreneuriat, les participants apprendront à identifier les projets qui conviennent le mieux à leurs compétences et à leur situation individuelle. Cet atelier sera proposé en personne, mais l'animateur se connectera virtuellement.
(EN) This 2-hour workshop aims to help French-speaking entrepreneurs adopt the key principles for launching an entrepreneurial project with success. In addition to clarifying some of the myths surrounding entrepreneurship, participants will learn to identify which projects best suit their skillset and individual situation. This workshop will be offered in-person, however the facilitator will tune in virtually.
Tax Tips for Entrepreneurs
Presented by the Canadian Revenue Agency Liaison Officer Program
Join the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) Liaison Officer to learn more about payroll, GST, business deductions and income tax obligations for your small business. This session will also provide entrepreneurs with information on how to avoid common mistakes, and how to access helpful e-services and tools. After the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to book a one-on-one session with the Liaison Officer to further discuss individual situations.
Please note: All sessions booked with a CRA Liaison Officer are completely confidential. Individual information discussed with the Liaison Officer is not shared with anyone or to other departments in the CRA, such as audit or collections.
Makerspace YK Open House & Logo Stamp Workshop
Presented by Makerspace YK
Join us at Makerspace YK for a tour of our space and a custom stamp making workshop. Participants will get an overview of the equipment and space available for use in our woodshop, digital fabrication lab and art space. During the workshop, participants will learn how to use the laser cutter and 2D graphics software to create a custom rubber stamp of their logo (or any other design they would like) for their business.
