Manager of Member Relations & Program Coordinator

This position is full-time for 35 hours a week, from 9:00am until 5:00pm Monday to Friday.


Candidates must be willing to work one weekend a year (Mother’s Day weekend) when we host our annual Spring Trade Show, and occasional evenings (typically less than 5 per year) based on our event schedule.


We are seeking a candidate who is passionate about the Yellowknife business community, eager to immerse themselves in the Chamber network, and willing to commit to the Yellowknife Chamber by mastering the Member Relations role and preparing to eventually become our next Executive Director.


The ideal candidate will be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of programs, have strong computer skills and the ability to learn complex online databases, have excellent writing and organization skills and enjoy working independently and as part of a team.


We are offering a salary from $77,676 - $83,228 depending on education and experience, and excellent health and dental benefits.

  1. Membership & Benefits
  • Lead membership growth initiatives to ensure membership numbers increase annually
  • Learn about chamber market segmentation and develop an annual sales strategy
  • Act as the membership liaison, being the primary point of contact to ensure member satisfaction
  • Research chamber best practices and develop a strong onboarding program to support new members
  • Participate in annual ‘membership outreach’ phone calls (approx. 200+ calls per year)
  • Research and propose potential new membership benefits
  • Work with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce to ensure affinity programs are made available to our membership
  • Work with affinity program providers, including Chambers Plan, to increase enrollment
  • Update ChamberMaster and Constant Contact to ensure our databases are accurate, as needed

  1. Member Event Planning
  • Help plan and successfully execute all Yellowknife Chamber events and initiatives including, but not limited to, the Annual General Meeting, Trailblazers Symposium, Spring Trade Show, Small Business Week Conference, Business Awards Gala and #ShopYK campaign
  • Adhere to approved budgets
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all events
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers
  • Arrange venues, caterers, suppliers, and equipment
  • Research and recommend potential event speakers
  • Book approved speakers and coordinate logistics, which may include travel arrangements
  • Actively pursue opportunities to book Business Club Luncheons, Business After Hours, and Lunch & Learn events
  • Draft sponsorship packages, approach potential event sponsors and ensure sponsorship agreements are fulfilled
  • Assist with event setup and tear down of the Spring Trade Show – Must be able to stand for long periods of time and carry 20 lbs


  1. Marketing & Communications
  • Prepare e-blasts with content provided by our members, and promote Yellowknife Chamber initiatives and events using Constant Contact
  • Ensure the website is kept up to date
  • Monitor local media sources for media coverage and share coverage through appropriate communication channels (social media, website)
  • Using appropriate tools, schedule social media posts for Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, Instagram, and any other appropriate social media channels
  • Create and manage Facebook events
  • Respond to comments and messages on Social Media channels, aiming for a response rate of 100%Using an approved budget, create advertising plans and facilitate with vendors
  • Using Microsoft Word, help draft the Annual Report and Membership Benefits Package
  • Prepare written communications including press releases, reference letters for members and speeches for the Executive Director and President
  • Coordinate and organize Business Award Gala nominations and supplementary documentation
  • Research other chambers and their best practices for event management and marketing and make recommendations for improvement
  • Create promotional graphics and posters using
  • Make sales calls and follow-up on sales leads, including in-person visits with local businesses


  1. Advocacy
  • Stay informed on current business issues by reviewing all local media outlets daily, reviewing weekly City of Yellowknife Council agendas, and regularly reviewing GNWT Hansards
  • Solicit membership feedback and share with the Executive Director Board of Directors
  • Research current issues, Canadian trends and best practices, and present recommendations for the Board of Directors to consider


  1. The Manager of Member Relations will be expected to learn the functions of Executive Director as they grow in their role. They will be expected to oversee daily Chamber operations in the short-term absence of the Executive Director (i.e. while the ED is away on leave).


  1. Perform additional duties as required by the Executive Director.
