Founded in 1946 by a group of local business owners as the Yellowknife Board of Trade, the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce has helped generations of businesses to grow and thrive in our arctic environment.  The first President was Gerry D. Murphy who helped lead the fundraising effort to construct the first indoor community arena in Yellowknife.  The arena was subsequently named after him.

The official logo depicting Raymond the Raven was born in 1959 and has been used extensively in marketing everything from t-shirts to buttons and more.  Since the discovery of diamonds in the north, the logo has been updated to include diamonds to reflect the importance they play in our northern economy versus the traditional gold mining economy that had thrived in Yellowknife for many decades previously.

In addition to being an effective lobbying voice for the business community, the Chamber of Commerce hosts many events to promote business and economic development in the local area such as the annual Spring Trade Show which is held each Mothers Day weekend.  The show regularly draws attendance of over 9,000 visitors. The City of Yellowknife is often observed as an area that is full of opportunity for business ventures because of the higher than normal average household incomes and because of the local demand for new and exciting business products and services.  Come try us out for a couple of months, you won’t be disappointed!
